Welcome to the St George's University of London Christian Union website.

We are a student society at St George's, existing to serve both Christian and non-Christian students.  We are affiliated to UCCF, the Christian Union Movement, and incorporate the George's CMF (Christian Medical Fellowship) group.

Our Vision:

"To make the good news of Jesus real and relevant to every one at George's

We believe that as Students at St George's we have been put here by God for his purpose.

This is our mission field.

God's word says 'by this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.' (John 13:35). The Christian Union has a special role as a place where Christian students from all denominations and traditions can gather together. We are able to offer prayer and practical support to each other as we live out our Christian lives in the academic and healthcare world and, perhaps more importantly, our efforts to "make Him known" are more effective when we witness together and support each other in prayer.

In order to fulfil the mission statement, we seek to:

  • grow in the knowledge of Jesus Christ through the understanding of His Word

Joshua 1:8 'Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it.'

  • rely on the power of God to do all things through prayer

Philippians 4:6 'Do not be anxious or afraid about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.'

2 Peter 1:3 'His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own goodness.'

  • proclaim faithfully the truth of Jesus Christ and his gospel through the Holy Spirit

Acts 1:8 '...you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.'

1 Peter 3:15 '...always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have...'

  • live a life that proclaims Jesus Christ in all we do, through the power of the Holy Spirit

Philippians 2:13-16 '...for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to his good purpose. Do everything without complaining or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe as you hold out the word of life...'

  • gather together in worship

Psalm 100:2 'Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.'

  • encourage and build one another up in love and godliness

Hebrews 10:23-25 'Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on towards love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another, and all the more as you see the Day approaching.'

Doctrinal Basis

We seek to bring people together from every Christian denomination and stream.

As a part of the University and College's Christian Fellowship, we are in agreement with their doctrinal basis, and all those in leadership believe these statements to be true.

"The basis of the Fellowship shall be the fundamental truths of Christianity, as revealed in Holy Scripture, including:

  1. There is one God in three persons, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
  2. God is sovereign in creation, revelation, redemption and final judgement.
  3. The Bible, as originally given, is the inspired and infallible Word of God. It is the supreme authority in all matters of belief and behaviour.
  4. Since the fall, the whole of humankind is sinful and guilty, so that everyone is subject to God's wrath and condemnation.
  5. The Lord Jesus Christ, God's incarnate Son, is fully God; he was born of a virgin; his humanity is real and sinless; he died on the cross, was raised bodily from death and is now reigning over heaven and earth.
  6. Sinful human beings are redeemed from the guilt, penalty and power of sin only through the sacrificial death once and for all time of their representative and substitute, Jesus Christ, the only mediator between them and God.
  7. Those who believe in Christ are pardoned all their sins and accepted in God's sight only because of the righteousness of Christ credited to them; this justification is God's act of undeserved mercy, received solely by trust in him and not by their own efforts.
  8. The Holy Spirit alone makes the work of Christ effective to individual sinners, enabling them to turn to God from their sin and to trust in Jesus Christ.
  9. The Holy Spirit lives in all those he has regenerated. He makes them increasingly Christlike in character and behaviour and gives them power for their witness in the world.
  10. The one holy universal church is the Body of Christ, to which all true believers belong.
  11. The Lord Jesus Christ will return in person, to judge everyone, to execute God's just condemnation on those who have not repented and to receive the redeemed to eternal glory."
